Let’s get to the Heart of the Matter

Heart attack kills a thousand of people every year. Some fatalities are caused by not receiving immediate medical attention, while others are caused because they failed to pay attention to their diet with the proper medication.

‘Prevention is better than cure’ – Being aware of all possible heart attack signs will help determine when to seek professional medical attention. Even if the patient is unsure of whether or not he or she is having a heart attack, it is much better to be safe than sorry. You can lower your chances of heart problems by switching to healthy diet.

Eat less fat

Fats are more likely to cause heart problems. These fats are usually found in foods from animals, such as meat, milk, cheese, and butter. They also are found in foods with palm and coconut oils. Eat less of these foods.

Control your sodium intake

Eating less sodium can help lower blood pressure. This can help reduce the risk of heart problems. Sodium is something we need in our diets, but most of us have too much of it. Much of the sodium we have comes from salt we add to our food at the table or that food companies add to their foods. So, avoid adding salt to foods at the table.

Consume fewer calories

When we consume more calories than we need, we gain weight. Being overweight can cause heart disease. Eliminate fried food and replace them with baked, steamed or boiled food. Try and stay away from oil but if you use it choose something which is low in fat like olive oil.

Add more Fibre to your diet

Eating fibre from fruits, vegetables and grains may help lower your chances of getting heart disease. Dietary fibre comes from plant sources. Go for foods that provide complex carbohydrates like fresh fruits, vegetables and cereal grains like Quaker Oats.
